Concert with BSG writers!

In case you didn't get the Facebook invite...this will be pretty cool - Casey

Type: Music/Arts - Concert
Date: Sunday, February 14, 2010
Time: 7:00pm - 9:00pm
Location: Belmont Church-Koinonia Building

Jesus Loves You. A night of music on Valentine's Day. We figured this would be a good day to remind you.

The line up is as follows.
Adam Hill will be playing tunes from his upcoming album Smoke Trees, an eclectic mix of bluegrass, rock n roll and southern blue eyed soul.

The Lovespies play beautiful, quirky, folk songs about spaceships and time travel. It's all a metaphor for longing. Julie's voice is like Alabama twang mixed with Bjork and her guitar slinging hubby Rob is a classical gas.

Drinkwine is some stone cold Jesus Rock. Jeremy Drinkwine's singing to stadiums voice packs a punch with great songs and drop dead melodies.

Admission is free. A donation will be taken for the Romanian School for Worship and Arts.

First meeting of 2010

Our first BSG meeting in 2010 will include a special guest, Godfrey Birtill, worship leader/writer from Kingsway Music U.K. In addition to hearing Godrey's thoughts on songwriting we will share new songs and talk about BSG plans. This year we hope to have a Fall and a Spring showcase as well as additional meetings specifically for song feedback and special topics like "How to setup your CD for sale on the Internet". Our first meeting is Thursday, February 18, 6-9pm at Asaph's Chamber on the Belmont Church campus. You can bring a brown-bag dinner if you like. I miss everyone and look forward to seeing both old and new friends.

For those of you who have not signed up to be a "fan" at the Belmont Songwriter's Guild page on Facebook, I encourage you to do so. You will get up to the minute info on BSG as well as hear music posted by BSG writers. In the meantime, I will continue to send emails out to this list and to new members who will not use Facebook. Please let me know if you want me to remove your name from this email list.

Happy songwriting.
Casey

Next Meeting Feb 18 Plus Facebook Page Info

Belmont Songwriters Guild members and friends,
Happy New Year! I hope you have all had a refreshing holiday with family and friends. I wanted to give you an exciting update on the Belmont Songwriters Guild.
Our own Julie Higgenbotham has setup a Facebook page for BSG...thank you Julie! This Facebook page will become the communications hub for BSG info, schedules, updates, and community. I will be loading it with info and our 2010 schedule in the next few days.
There will be no more BSG emails so please be sure to sign up on this Facebook page and check it for updates.
Here's a link to the BSG Facebook page.
I'm not sure my email list is comprehensive, so please spread the word about this new Facebook page to anyone you know who attends or is interested in this group.
Our next BSG meeting will be on February 18, 6-9 pm at Asaph's on the Belmont Church campus.
I hope you all are writing; it is food for the songwriter soul.
Hope & joy,
Casey McGinty

I SAW A LITTLE GIRL CRYIN’ ON THE CITY STREET
EVERY BODY JUST WALKED ON BY
NOBODY SEEMED TO NOTICE HER
AS IF THEY WERE ALL BLIND

I SAW A STRANGER FROM OUT OF THE CROWD
COMFORT AND TAKE AWAY HER FEARS
THAT ‘S WHEN I HEARD HER SAY TO ME
THAT MUST HAVE BEEN JESUS AS HE DISAPPEARED

Hooked On Life

Hooked On Life
Written by Stephanie McKenna and Debbie Ponceti

VERSE 1
Summer showers on a lazy saturday
Hopping on my bike and just peddaling away
Catching the suns last rays
Hearing a child pray

CHORUS
Oh, it's the little things, yeah
It's the little things,
That's why I'm hooked on life

VERSE 2
The smell of grandma's bacon fryin' on the stove

Songwriter’s Guild Sept 17, 2009 – A View of Where Jesus Was Among Us

by karen peterson - thanks! rs

Jesus joined us last night. So much diversity of expression. It was the Songwriter’s Guild and many people shared their new songs vulnerably with the group.

There was Mary*, who tearfully told how crisis had brought her to a critical moment of faith. She trusted us with a gem from her life story. It was precious, costly, and close to her heart. Jesus came near enough to touch her. He reached in and held her heart safe, because He knew how tender it was. His eyes sparkled with delight, because her love for Him was so pure and untainted.

Belmont Songwriter Showcase - Call for Performers

This is our first call for songwriters to register for the upcoming Belmont Songwriters Showcase. I
This Showcase is open to any songwriter who has attended a Belmont Songwriter Guild meeting this year. Since we will have a limited number of slots for the Showcase, we will give preference to those who have attended BSG meetings more regularly.
With this Showcase, it is our desire to invite Belmont Church members and your friends and family to experience the wonderful and diverse musical creative expressions that are coming out of the Belmont Songwriter Guild.

Date: Thursday October 29th
Place: Belmont Church Chapel (the old church sanctuary)
Time: 7:00 pm to 9:00-9:30 pm

Here is how the Showcase evening will run:
• We will plan for 20-24 performance slots of 5-6 minutes each.

• Each performer will prepare a written statement about the origin of their song that can be presented in 60 seconds or less. You will verbally give you prepared statement to the audience when you perform your song. We want you to express your heart but not take too much time.

• You will have the remaining time to present your song.

• While we prefer to have live performances, we will consider allowing you to present a pre-recorded CD of you song.

• Your primary audio setup will include a keyboard (we will provide), guitar input or mic (you bring your instrument), vocal mic, or other input for a primary instrument if not a keyboard or guitar.

• You can invite any of the following for an accompanist.
o Up to 3 back ground vocalists
o A percussion instrument, like a djembe or conga
o A second guitarist
o A instrument with direct input (bass, electric, etc)
o A instrument to be miked (violin, flute, etc)

• We will try to plan for a pre-Showcase run thru, but we may need to call you in early on the day of the Showcase for a sound check. If we just sound check, we will likely just do a few sound checks and run the rest in real time. Please be flexible with us, we will minimize the prep time as this is all volunteer work.

How to register as a Showcase performer
Please respond to this email with the following information:
• Your name
• How many times did you attend a BSG meeting
• Title of your song
• Timing of your song in minutes
• Would you prefer to present a pre-recorded CD of your song rather than a live performance
• What instrument will you play
• Will you sing for yourself
• What accompanying instruments do you want to use besides your lead vocal and lead instrument

Meeting September 17th

Our next Belmont Songwriters Guild meeting is Thursday, September 17, at Asaph's on the Belmont Church campus. We will gather at 6:00pm and fellowship for half hour or so. You are welcome to bring your dinner to eat. After that we will share songs and then discus the upcoming BSG Writer's Night (October 29!).
Bring your newest or a favorite to share.

God is the Creator. All creativity is derived from Him. Thus, our creativity contains the essence of God. So, we can find Him through sharing our creativity...if we listen.
